Gulliver and the Travellers
Gulliver and the Travellers. Neil Norman from Hinckley (drums) in the early days. Johnny Bedder from Hinckley on the left, Briam Meacham on vocals and Tony Dangerfield on bass. Thanks Neil for these photographs. Neil was a great guy and a true friend, but sadly he is no longer with us.
Another publicity photo from the early 60's.

Many thanks to John Wallbank for sending me the following information on Gulliver and the Travellers which I have re-written and included here.

The original drummer with The Travellers was John Wallbank who was brought into the band by Johnny Bedder. He stayed at Tony Dangerfield's place whilst rehearsing for gigs. Johnny Bedder knew him because he had previously played in the Stormbirds with him (possibly as a stand in drummer in 1962 for Neil Norman who was for some reason unavailable for gigs at the time).
John Wallbank went on to play drums for The Liberators, a Rugby band formed in 1964. The line-up of this band was Samuel "Pinkerton" Kemp (autoharp/vocals), Tony Newman (rhythm guitar), Tom Long (lead guitar), Barrie Bernard (bass) and John Wallbank (drums). They recorded one single with producer Shel Talmy ("It Hurts So Much" ) in 1965 featuring Jimmy Page on guitar. John left the line-up to be replaced by Dave Holland shortly after the band was renamed as Pinkertons Assorted Colours.
They were signed by Reg Calvert (the manager of the Fortunes) and when Reg offered them a contract he thought Pinkerton's Assorted Colours was a more marketable name than The Liberators.

More excellent sites for Tony Dangerfield with much more information. Sadly I lost touch many years ago.

A fantastic site about Janice Nicholls. Unfortunately last time I checked the site had been removed. Lets hope it returns soon.

Tony Dangerfield, Neil Norman and Johnny Bedder went on to form Tony Dangerfield and the Thrills. This is the A side of their only recording from 1964.
